WH Smith has stopped accepting cheques in its Scottish stores, and may extend
the policy to the rest of the UK after a review at the end of October.
The company claims it has made the move due to an increasing problem with fraud.
Several retailers have restricted the use of cheques during the past year,
including PC World and Currys. Boots is currently running a similar trial to
measure consumer reaction.
