Lenders concerned at having to write off substantial sums to over indebted
consumers are to receive help from the UK's leading advisor to people with
serious debt problems, Debt Free Direct.
The company is arranging a conference in November to help creditors better
manage their relationships with the growing number of debt advice and solutions
providers.
Derek Oakley, Insolvency Director at Debt Free Direct, explained: "We are using
the conference to look at ways creditors can strike a balance between improving
their own returns while still treating customers fairly.
"There are a number of ways in which creditors can improve their practices by
having a better understanding of the options being presented to consumers.
"These can vary wildly depending on the source of the advice and the expertise
and independence of the advisor."
"An ethical debt advisor should seek a fair resolution for both the creditor and
consumer. Lenders have expressed concerns that much of the advice available is
weighted in favour of the consumer.
This conference will look at practical ways in which lenders can satisfy
themselves as to the quality of advice as well as the circumstances in which an
IVA can be used as a fair and effective recovery technique."
The conference is being held on 9 November 2006 at Radisson Edwardian Heathrow
Hotel
Speakers include representatives from Debt Free Direct, the Insolvency Service
and debt charity CCCS.
