According to a recent study by APACS, British consumers make the largest number
of ATM withdrawals of any country in Europe.
In 2005, 2.7 billion withdrawals were made. The UK also has the highest density
of cash machines of the large EU member states.
The research also found that there were almost 34 million regular ATM users in
Britain, a figure predicted to rise to 40 million by 2015.
A record £172 billion was withdrawn from UK cash machines last year, equating to
£5,455 per second.
