Reports of a national supermarket chain moving away from historic plastic
packaging towards compostable packaging, and of another encouraging consumers to
use fewer bags points to an unsteady time ahead for the plastic packaging
manufacturing sector.
Credit references agency ICC Credit has researched the probability and chance of
failure for businesses in the sector.
The analysis, of 526 companies whose principal activity is the manufacture of
plastic packaging goods, shows that 3% are in liquidation or administration with
a further 11% having a number of County Court Judgments against them.
The average Riskscore ( probability of a limited company failing within the next
12 months ) for all companies in this industry is 34, calculated from a scale of
1-100 where 1 represents the highest risk and 100 the lowest risk.
This points to potentially worrying times ahead for an industry under threat
from increasing interest in the retail sector for more sustainable packaging
solutions.
