In one of the most significant developments in its 60-year history, The
Institute of Credit Management (ICM) has announced plans to revise and revamp
its membership grades to more fairly and accurately reflect the qualifications
and experience of those working in the credit management profession in the 21st
Century.
The review includes a new-look Affiliate Membership grade for those studying for
ICM qualifications or for those working in the credit or related industries, and
the introduction of an additional route to Associate Member grade with the
entitlement to AICM designatory letters.
Director General Philip King commented: “The ICM has recognised the need to
offer all credit professionals a route to membership, even if they are newcomers
to the industry or individuals who have gained academic achievement in a
different sector.
“A far wider audience now has the opportunity to enjoy the wealth of advice,
information and benefits that the Institute offers based on their experience,
qualifications, or study plans.
“The revised structure addresses some of the anomalies that have existed in the
past. The ‘Student’ category, for example, has been replaced by a more
encompassing ‘Affiliate’ grade which is a more appropriate and less incongruous
title for those who might already be part qualified or have worked in the
industry for some time.
“The purpose is simple. It is to make the Institute more accessible to a greater
number of individuals working in our sector, whilst at the same time enhancing
the value and the credibility of membership to our existing members still
further.”
The revised grade structure
Affiliate Membership: a non-qualified membership grade with no entry
requirements aimed at those studying for ICM qualifications or working in the
credit or related industries
Associate Membership (designatory letters AICM) for those who have passed the
ICM level 3 Certificate in Credit Management and those who have a relevant and
recognised qualification together with 2 years credit experience.
Membership (designatory letters MICM(Grad) or MICM) intended for those who have
passed the ICM level 5 Diploma in Credit Management or the Thames Valley
University Foundation Degree in Credit Management, or for those who have 5 years
credit management experience.
Fellowship (designatory letters FICM) aimed at those MICM and MICM (Grad)s who
meet the current Fellowship criteria.
